Womens Ministries

The mission of Women’s Ministries of First Presbyterian church is to support women on their spiritual journey. We create opportunities that open the door to meeting other women with similar needs and interests. Programs especially for women are offered to enhance both spiritual and personal enrichment.

Ongoing Groups for Women

Presbyterian Women

PW offers growth and friendship through daytime and evening “circles” to study and grow in the faith and community. Circles meet monthly on the third Wednesday during the day, and one meets in the evenings on the second Tuesday of each month. “Gatherings” are held for special programs, and there are many opportunities to support the Presbyterian missions. All women of our church are members and welcome anytime. To join a circle, contact Barb Larson.

Kindred Spirits

Kindred Spirits is a spiritual growth group appealing to women of all ages in our church. The small group fosters spiritual development through a warm and wise community of women. Using music, quiet time, study materials, discussions and activities, women build a stronger faith and closer relationship with God. Kindred Spirits meets once or twice a month in the church parlor. In the summer, the group meets monthly for a walk-and-talk evening. Contact Nancy Williams (williams.nb@sbcglobal.net ) if you are interested in the group’s activities.

Upcoming Women’s Ministries Events

To enrich the lives of women in our church, the Women’s Ministries team arranges truly special and meaningful programs. Each year, a team of volunteers brings women together in Christian community, planning and promoting events for fellowship and growth.

Additional Events

The Women’s Ministries team periodically arranges other events, each with the goal of helping you renew your spirit, your relationships and your connection to God. Below are examples from recent years.

  • Nature Activities—We canoed and picnicked along the Fox River.
  • Cultural Outings—We attended a theater matinee in Chicago followed by dinner in Arlington Heights.
  • Fellowship Dinners—We’ve hosted two festive “Sisterhood Suppers” at church.
  • Movie Nights—We’ve gathered on winter nights to watch a movie in the parlor and nibble on movie snacks.
  • Renew U Workshops—A day to recharge, try something new, and learn something interesting.  View pictures from the 2011 Renew U here.
  • Women's Retreats—On Saturday, November 10, 2012, more than 50 women of First Presbyterian Church and their friends came together for a day to explore gratitude. They explored what’s involved in developing a grateful heart and spirit. The day included speakers, group and personal reflection time, a home-cooked lunch, workshops for expression, and a closing worship service.

We welcome your suggestions. If you have an idea for an outing or other suggestion, please contact Nancy Williams (williams.nb@sbcglobal.net), Connie Landwehr (connielandwehr@yahoo.com) or the church office.
